Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA

As promised, this week I will not be talking about Samuel Adams.  Instead I am featuring Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA.  I first learned about this brewery and brew on the Discovery Channel series Brew Masters, which actually aired in Italy.  Of course they didn't actually sell the beer there, which meant I had to wait to see what all the fuss was about.
The Dogfish Head Brewery is located in Milton, Delaware bringing the total number of Delaware exports that I am aware of to two:  Dogfish Head beer and Joe Biden.  Since Joe Biden is a walking haircut, Dogfish Head has finally put Delaware on the map.

"Tell your mom I said hello."
Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA is one of the brewery's signature brews, along with a 60 minute and 120 minute IPA.  The name refers to the amount of the boil time of the wort.  During this 90 minutes they continually add hops to increase the bitterness of the beer and gives it a rich hoppy flavor.
Not really what I meant.
So is the beer worth all of the hype?  The first thing that you need to know is that this is a beer for people that appreciate beer.  Frat boys are not chugging 90 Minute Imperial IPA while contemplating date rape.  This beer delivers on the hoppy flavor and also weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume.  Although not the strongest beer I have had (The Brasseurs de Gayant La Biere Du Demon was 12%), this beer does not play around.  It has a deep caramel color and an aroma that brings your nose the flavor well before your tongue gets it.

Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA is a great beer to pair with a meal or just to enjoy alone.  Just be prepared for a full bodied brew with a strong hop flavor.
